Tried watching 'The Crown' and 'The Great' back to back...
I watched the first 3 episodes of each show this weekend, and 'The Great' just pulled me in way faster. The Crown felt slow and heavy, like a history book, while 'The Great' made the same kind of royal drama feel wild and funny from the start. Has anyone else found a show that hooked them quicker than a similar one?

Got the same feeling with two cop shows last month. The Wire took a few episodes to click, but Brooklyn Nine-Nine had me laughing from the opening scene. What did you watch after those first episodes?

Oh man I gotta jump in here real quick. The Wire is a whole different beast than B99, no argument there. But what not enough people say is that The Wire actually hooks you in the FIRST episode if you pay attention to the chess scene with the kids and McNulty basically spelling out the whole game. Brooklyn Nine-Nine hits you with fast jokes right away, sure, but it also gets WAY deeper later on with character stuff like Captain Holt coming out to his mom or Jake and Amy's relationship. I think people confuse "a show taking time to click" with "a show that demands you actually watch it closely and not scroll your phone." Different shows ask for different things from you, that's all.

Isn't it funny how some shows need time to grow on you while others just grab you right away? I see that all the time, like how some people become instant friends and others you have to warm up to. You're totally right @the_jenny, The Wire is a whole mood you have to settle into, but B99 is like a shot of happy. After those first episodes, did you find yourself sticking with one style or jumping between serious and funny shows?
