Hand forged vs. machine made debate got me second guessing everything
Old smith at a demo in Flagstaff told me power hammers ruin the soul of a blade, but I just finished a batch with my自家 rig and the edges held better than any hand hammered piece I've done. Am I crazy for thinking the machine stuff comes out more consistent, or is that old timer onto something about feel?

Man I used to be totally on that old timer's side, thought hand hammering was the only way to put real soul into a blade. But after running a couple hundred blanks through my power hammer and getting dead consistent edge geometry every single time, I can't go back. The soul stuff makes for a good story but when you're actually using the knife the consistency matters way more than how it was hit.

Does that mean my hand hammered stuff is just "soul" poorly?
