My old coal forge finally gave out after 15 years of constant use.
The firepot cracked clean through last Tuesday, so I had to weld a patch on the spot to finish a custom gate hinge order for a client in Boise.

You welded a patch on a cracked firepot and kept working? How is that even safe?

Fifteen years is a good run for a forge, but that crack must have been a real Tuesday surprise. I guess that's the blacksmith version of duct tape, welding a patch to finish an order. At least the client in Boise got their hinges, even if your firepot looks like it lost a fight. Nothing ever breaks at a convenient time, does it?
