My old post vise snapped clean off at the weld last Tuesday
It was holding a piece of 1/2 inch square stock when the whole jaw assembly just dropped. I had to finish the scroll work by clamping it in the leg vise, which was a huge pain. Anyone have a good source for a solid, forged replacement that won't do this?

Honestly, that sounds like a classic case of weld fatigue from repeated stress. A truly forged vise won't have that single point of failure, so it's worth hunting one down. Check out old farm auctions or industrial liquidations for the good stuff.

Actually, I've seen some welded ones hold up just fine!

Yeah, I learned that the hard way with a bench vise a few years back. The weld on the static jaw let go after a lot of heavy clamping. Found a solid forged one at a machinery reseller, paid about forty bucks, and it hasn't budged since.
