Unpopular opinion: I counted 612 hammer strikes on one bottle opener and that's why mine stay ugly
I forge small stuff to sell at the farmers market in Boise, and a customer asked me why my bottle openers cost $35 when the guy two booths down sells them for $8. So I sat down and counted every hit on a single opener, and it came out to 612 strikes from the first taper to the last pass on the twist. That's not counting the 40 minutes at the forge heating and reheating because my little two burner setup loses heat fast. I'm not saying my openers are better than anyone's, I'm saying I finally understood why I can't go below $30 and still eat. How do you all figure your pricing when someone hits you with the 'it's just a bottle opener' line?
