Old forum threads got deleted by a spam filter, lost 15 years of advice
Was looking for a fix for my 1998 Civic's AC compressor and found a thread from 2009 that had the exact issue. Went to bookmark it, hit refresh, and the whole section was gone. The bot flagged the old posts as spam because they had too many links to dead image hosts. I lost a whole archive of part numbers and torque specs from guys who actually knew these cars. Anyone else losing old knowledge because of overzealous filters?
Man, that sucks. I had the same thing happen with a Jeep forum when they switched hosts back in 2016, lost a whole writeup on rebuilding a NP231 transfer case. My question is this: did the mods even warn anybody before running that filter, or did it just nuke everything overnight? And is there any way to pull the old stuff from the Internet Archive, or was it all images and attachments that never got cached?
