Appreciation post: The guy who taught me the real history of Monopoly

I was at a game night in Austin and a guy mentioned that Monopoly was originally designed to be a critique of landlords. I looked it up later and found the original 1903 version was called 'The Landlord's Game' and was meant to show how rents create poverty. What's the most surprising board game origin story you've heard?

Totally agree with @dakota379, it makes you see the whole game differently. What other games have we been playing wrong?

Oh wow, that's actually a super common mix-up! The original 1904 game by Lizzie Magie was anti-monopoly, but Parker Brothers totally changed it. Honestly @dakota379, it's crazy how the meaning got flipped like that.
