Figured out a trick for storing games with broken boxes that actually works

I had a copy of Twilight Struggle where the box got crushed in a move. The corners were all split and the lid wouldn't close right. I was about to toss it but then I tried cutting the box down the sides and sliding it into a plain white cardboard storage box from the craft store. Now it fits perfect on my shelf and looks clean. Cost me like $3 for the storage box. Has anyone else found a cheap fix for busted game boxes instead of just throwing them away?

A buddy of mine had the same thing happen with his copy of Terraforming Mars. The lid was basically flopping open and he was about to chuck it in recycling. He grabbed one of those clear plastic storage bins with the snap-on lids from the dollar store for like a buck fifty, trimmed the original box art and slid it inside the clear lid so it still looks like the game. Looked pretty sharp honestly and you can see the board pieces through the walls.

Is ditching the original box really that big of a deal though? I mean, a torn lid isn't the end of the world for most people. Plenty of games have boxes that get a little beat up after a few plays and we just live with it. Sounds like a lot of effort for a problem that didn't really need solving. But hey, if it makes him happy, more power to him I guess.
