Granddad's old copy of Axis & Allies sparked a talk today

I was cleaning out a closet at my folks' place and found a 1984 Axis & Allies box with maps full of my granddad's notes from games back in the day. He wrote little strategies in the margins like 'always take Ukraine turn two' in pencil. Makes me wonder how many of us still keep paper notes like that or is it all apps and spreadsheets now?

Did he actually follow his own advice on taking Ukraine turn two, or did he scribble that after losing a game because of it? I find old notes like that are half concrete strategies and half wishful thinking from the last time someone got wiped out there. The other day I found a sticky note I stuck inside a Risk box that said "never trust a deal with the guy in Australia" and I honestly can't remember if that was genius or me being salty. So what did your granddad's notes say about the actual outcomes of those games?

Friend of mine scribbled "hold Ukraine" then lost it next turn. Still says it was a solid plan.
