I let a random guy run my whole strategy in a 4 hour Twilight Imperium game and it wrecked my brain
So last Saturday at our FLGS in Reno we had a 6 player TI4 game and I got stuck next to this quiet dude I never met. About hour 2 I was chasing points the way I always do, grabbing objectives, and he leans over and says 'let the table fight each other while you just hold your slice.' I ignored him for a while but eventually tried it, and I ended up winning at 10 points while barely taking a single fight. What got me was how boring it felt while it was happening, even though it worked better than any aggressive game I've run. So do you all actually enjoy playing the patient turtle style, or does it feel like you're not even in the game?
Playing the quiet game can feel slow, sure, but that boredom is kind of the point (your brain wants action, and sitting still takes real discipline). The folks I know who turtle well are still very much in the game, just watching every trade and vote instead of rolling dice. Honestly, the table often hands you the win because nobody sees you as the threat until it is way too late.
