Unpopular opinion: People keep saying 'meeples' when they mean 'tokens' and it drives me crazy

I was at a game night last Friday and someone pointed at a pile of wooden cubes and called them meeples. Meeples are people shaped pieces, not every single piece of wood on the table. I saw the same thing happen at a convention in Austin where a guy kept calling all the cardboard coins meeples too. Does anyone else notice this or am I the only nerd who actually reads the rulebook components list?

Ngl I once called a handful of poker chips "meeples" and my group still brings it up to roast me, so I feel your pain on a spiritual level.

Well actually, calling them meeples makes way more sense since they're literally game pieces...
