Warning: My gaming group fell apart after we switched to a 30-minute timer

We used to have these epic 3-hour sessions of Twilight Imperium where everyone was chill and focused. Then last month, one guy insisted we try a house rule with a 30-minute turn timer to speed things up. Within two games, two players started rushing their moves and making huge mistakes, and one guy quit entirely because he felt pressured. Did anyone else have a group rule backfire like this and ruin the whole vibe?

Timers kill the fun every single time.

Have you ever played a game where the tension came from knowing you only had a few minutes to pull off a big heist or escape a disaster? That's where I think a timer actually adds something special. Without it, some of my favorite multiplayer rounds just drag on forever because nobody wants to make the first move. I get why they can feel stressful, but for me, the countdown is what separates a boring stalemate from an exciting finish. It forces everyone to commit and take risks, which is where the real fun happens.
