Why does everyone hate on the dice tower from my 90s collection?

I chose a beat-up original dice tower over a fancy felt tray at a flea market last month, 15 bucks vs 40. Everyone at my game table rolled their eyes, but after 6 rounds of D&D it kept every roll contained and even bounced the dice better. The tray looked classy but the tower just works, no cleanup and no dice on the floor. Anyone else still swear by those clunky plastic towers from back in the day?

...and honestly that tower has seen more nat 1s than I have personal wins in life, which is saying something since I once rolled a 1 on a charisma check to order pizza. People clown on the plastic rattling sound, but you know what, that rattle is the heartbeat of the table now. Plus, I've lost count of how many times a nice felt tray turned into a dice catapult sending a d20 into someone's drink. My vintage tower has permanent duct tape on one corner from when my buddy got too excited about a crit and punched it, but that patina just adds character. Sure, it looks like a relic from a Burger King kids meal, but so do I most days, so we match.
