Appreciation post: that old-timer who taught me how to read a blueprint right
Started at the Local 374 hall 8 years ago and some graybeard named Walt spent his lunch breaks showing me how to spot weld symbols that look like chicken scratches. Saved my bacon last month on a boiler retube job down in Evansville when the engineer's drawing had a hidden stitch weld. Any of you guys have a mentor like that who still checks your prints?

Hang on, you really think that old timer's chicken scratch symbols saved your whole job? I've been reading prints for 12 years and those hidden stitch welds show up clear as day if you just look at the weld callout numbers. Sounds more like Walt gave you some confidence, not some secret code. I appreciate the old guys too but let's not pretend a basic weld symbol is some kind of lost art.
