Appreciation post: The older guys who taught me how to actually read a boiler print.

Old timer named Frank at the local hall showed me 3 years ago how to spot a bad weld joint before you even strike an arc. Last week on a job in Gary, his tip saved me from having to redo a whole section of tube sheet.

And Frank's trick about watching for the little shadow line on the root pass, that changed everything for me. Those old timers just see things we don't.

Still remember my first time trying to follow that shadow line. Frank didn't even say anything, just stood there nodding while I burned through three coupons before I even saw what he meant. @skyler_anderson65 nailed it about old school welders being the real teachers - they don't tell you, they just make you watch till you get it. My first root pass looked like a drunk spider crawled across the plate. Embarrassing stuff.
