Can we talk about that one pipe fitting that ate up my whole afternoon
Spent 5 hours wrestling a 4-inch schedule 80 flange bolt that was cross-threaded from the factory down at the Marathon refinery in Gary before I finally gave up and just cut the damn thing off with a sawzall, anyone else run into fittings that just refuse to cooperate for no good reason?

Did you check if the bolt was actually metric? I've seen factory mix-ups where a standard flange ends up with a metric bolt and nobody catches it until you're in there wrestling with it for hours.

Bring the bolt to a plumbing supply house and have them check the thread pitch with a thread gauge. I've seen standard and metric bolts with almost the same thread count, like 1.5mm vs 16 TPI, and you can't tell the difference just by looking at it. If it's cross-threaded even a little bit, you'll fight it for hours. That gauge will save you a trip back to the store.
