Had a brutal week at the refinery in Baton Rouge last month

We were swapping out a 40-year-old boiler feedwater heater and the old gasket basically turned to concrete. Took us 3 extra days just to break the flange loose with a hydraulic torque wrench. Has anyone else dealt with gaskets that just refuse to give up?

Read somewhere that heat cycles over decades basically bake those gaskets into the metal. Makes them act like one solid piece.

@daniel552 Spot on. Heat fuses them into one stubborn mess.
