Had a flange start weeping on a 600 psi steam line at the paper mill in Green Bay

We caught it during a walkdown and had to cool the line, then re-torque all 24 bolts with a calibrated wrench. Anyone else had to do an emergency re-torque on a hot system?

We had a similar scare on a 450 psi line at our plant last year. That feeling when you hear that first hiss is something else.

Heard that exact sound on a 300 psi line at our place two winters back. The hiss turned into a full on jet stream in about three seconds flat. We had a valve stem packing blow out and it shot a stream of hot water across the bay like a fire hose. Scrambling to shut the thing down with that noise in your ears is something you don't forget.
