Learned a pipe fitting trick from a 30 year vet in Houston

Had a flange that wouldnt align no matter how many times I torqued it, and the old guy showed me to loosen the top bolts and jack the pipe up an eighth inch with a scissor jack, which saved me four hours of grinding, has anyone else used a jack instead of wrestling with alignment?

Scissor jack beats a come-along and a prayer any day, now I just bring one everywhere.
