PSA: That $350 auto-darkening hood I bought last month almost melted my face off

I figured spending big on a Miller hood would be solid, but the sensors glitched on a flux-core job in Birmingham and it stayed bright for a full 5 seconds. Stupid thing left me with a wicked flash burn and I couldn't open my eyes for 6 hours. Anyone else ditched the fancy auto hoods and just went back to passive after a scare like this?

Did you at least get a cool raccoon tan out of it? I had a similar thing happen with a cheap import hood where it decided to take a nap right as I struck an arc on some rusty trailer hitch. Wound up stumbling around the shop with those little paper sunglasses the eye doctor gives you, looking like a fool for the rest of the day. I keep a passive hood hanging on the wall now just for jobs I don't trust the auto to handle. Sometimes the old tech is the best tech.

Haha yeah I looked like a burnt marshmallow with sunglasses for a week. Definitely learned to keep a backup hood handy after that one.
