Rant: welder on my crew gouged a 6 inch root gap on a pressure vessel in Gary last month
Last month we were doing a repair on a 12 foot vessel at the shop in Gary and the new guy opened up the root gap to almost 6 inches on a longitudinal seam. He was trying to make it easier to see and ended up with so much fill metal we burned through 40 pounds of rod on one pass. Had to cut the whole section out and start over, put us 2 days behind schedule. Anybody else run into guys who think wider gap means easier weld?
