The day I figured out my bevel cuts were off by 2 degrees

I spent like 3 years thinking my bevels were solid on pipe jobs. Then last month I was fitting a 12-inch header at a refinery in Baton Rouge and the gap kept getting bigger. Foreman walked over, pulled out his protractor, and showed me I was reading the angle wrong off my grinder mark. Felt pretty dumb but also relieved it wasnt my arm or eyesight going bad. Has anyone else had a foreman call them out on something you thought you had locked down?

A buddy of mine at the shop found the same thing on a 10-inch gas line last year. He started marking his grind lines with a sharpie before checking with a protractor and it fixed it right up.

That's a smart trick with the sharpie, I've seen a few guys on another forum mention doing the same thing for consistent bevel angles. Seems like the little visual cue helps a ton with muscle memory.
