The weld test standard that nobody seems to read right
I've been working at a shop outside Pittsburgh for 8 years now. Every time we get a new guy in, they walk up to the test plate with a 6010 rod and start running beads like they're praying. Then they get surprised when the inspector flags them for lack of penetration. The blueprint literally says 'full penetration required' in bold letters. Why does nobody read the instruction sheet? Has anyone else had to train someone three times on the same basic test coupon?

That 6010 scratch start prayer is too real. We get guys fresh out of welding school who run that first bead hot and fast, then wonder why the inspector pulls out the grinder. The thing is, even if the print says full pen, half these guys never stop to check their root opening or land before they strike an arc. Ive had to walk new hires through the same coupon three times too, and the third time I just made them read the WPS out loud before they touched a rod.

Man, that hits way too close to home honestly.
