Tried a 3/4-inch drive impact on a 2-inch stud bolt in a Philly plant, and the socket split right down the seam.

My buddy had that happen with a cheap socket on a rusted truck axle... it just exploded into three pieces like a grenade. We found a chunk of it twenty feet away in a gravel pile. He only bought name brand stuff after that scare.

Sounds a bit dramatic for a socket.

There's plenty of cheap impact sockets that handle way worse abuse than what you're describing without cracking. A 3/4 drive on a 2 inch stud isn't even that crazy. I've seen Harbor Freight stuff take rusted bolts on heavy equipment for years before they finally snap. A split down the seam sounds like the socket had a casting flaw or was used with too much wobble. Blaming the whole job or the thread is just ignoring the real issue.
