Update: I was wrong about that cheap magnetic level
Spent $45 on a high-end one after a bad weld, and the difference in accuracy is huge. Anyone have a brand they swear by for tight spaces?

What exactly went wrong with the cheap level? Was it the magnets not holding or the vial itself being off? I've found that even some mid-priced ones can have weak magnets that slip, which is just as bad as a bad reading. For tight spots, a smaller torpedo level with strong rare earth magnets is the only thing I trust.

Ever think about how the plastic casing warps over time? @gray_burns is right about magnets and vials, but a cheap body that bends in the heat will throw everything off. That's a slow failure you won't notice until it's too late.
