Warning: The old crew chili pot has been replaced by app orders
Back when I started, someone would always bring a slow cooker to the job site. We'd all chip in for ingredients and take turns stirring a big pot of chili or stew. It was a way to bond and share a hot meal, even in rough conditions. Now, with food delivery apps, everyone just orders their own lunch from different places. It's convenient, sure, but you don't get that same sense of community. I miss the smell of that chili cooking all morning. Last week, I tried to start a pot again, but most guys just looked at their phones. Guess some things don't come back.

I get the nostalgia, but app orders mean no one's stuck with a meal they hate. People can still connect if they WANT to, food's just the excuse.

Nah, the whole point was the shared hassle of picking one thing together. Now it's just a bunch of people eating separate takeout in the same room. The ritual is gone.

But forced togetherness is just bad pizza for everyone.
