We met at Denise's place in Portland to talk about 'The Road' and I said the ending felt hopeful, and this retired English teacher named Gary told me my take was 'a war crime against close reading' while pointing his fork at me. I tried to defend myself for 10 minutes but he just kept saying 'the boy, Elliot, think about the boy.' Anyone else have a member who turns a nice chat into a courtroom cross exam?
