Finally got my book club to actually debate a book instead of just chatting

We read 'Klara and the Sun' and I prepped three discussion questions about the ending. After six months of polite talks, we had a real 20-minute argument about the nature of love. Anyone else have a trick to spark better arguments?

Oh man, we just talk about the snacks.

Wait, what snacks are we even talking about here? Because @emerycarr, if it's just like a bag of pretzels, that's a letdown. We need details. Are we debating the best chip flavor or planning a full snack spread for a game? This is important stuff.

But is it really about the snacks themselves, or more about how you're just buying time to avoid talking about the real stuff going on in your lives?
