I finally gave in and read a Colleen Hoover book after swearing them off for years

I've been in a book club for about 4 years now and we usually stick to literary fiction or classics. Last month, two members pushed hard for "Verity" by Colleen Hoover. I rolled my eyes because I always figured her books were just fluff for young readers. But after everyone in the group read it except me, I caved and picked it up. I finished it in two nights and honestly, the plot twists caught me off guard. I still think some of her other books might not be for me, but that one changed my mind a little. Has anyone else had a book they dismissed quickly and then ended up liking?

Did you see that Tiktok trend where people were filming themselves crying over the plot twist in that book? Honestly thats what made me finally check it out too. I was the same way about "The Silent Patient" thought it was overhyped but then I couldnt put it down either. Ngl sometimes the popular stuff gets a bad rap for no good reason.

The part about "The Silent Patient" being overhyped but you couldn't put it down - that's exactly what happened to me with "Verity." I'd been avoiding Colleen Hoover books forever because I had this image in my head that they were all just cheesy romance novels with no substance. But man, I stayed up way too late reading that book, and that plot twist caught me totally off guard. Now I'm kind of mad at myself for being so stubborn about it for years, because I would have had a lot more fun reading it with the rest of my book club instead of being the last holdout. Sometimes the hype is there for a reason, even if it hurts my pride to admit it.
