I just spent $25 on a book club pick everyone hated and we argued for an hour about whether to finish it.

Half of us said forcing ourselves to read a bad book is a waste of time, while the other half argued that hating it together is the whole point of a club, so what's your rule for a book that's a total dud?

My friend Sarah had a club pick that was basically 400 pages of a guy describing his boring hike through some desert. Everyone but her wanted to quit after chapter 3 but she made us all stick with it just so she could roast the author's terrible descriptions out loud during meetings. By the end we were all just texting each other the worst lines and laughing, so I guess the rule ended up being if you can make fun of it together it's worth finishing.

Our rule is one chapter per complaint, then vote.

Yeah, that works. We found it keeps things moving without getting stuck on one issue.
