My book club fought for 45 minutes over whether 'The Great Gatsby' is actually boring or if we're just reading it wrong
After 3 years in the same group I swear half the members just pretend to like it because the other half will lecture you about symbolism if you say it drags, anyone else's club get weirdly defensive over certain books?

Gotta push back on that one I think. Faking it just makes the whole thing feel like a chore instead of just saying 'not my cup of tea' and moving on. In my experience, people respect honesty way more than pretending to like something you don't. Plus you end up missing out on stuff you actually might enjoy cause you're stuck defending a book you never even wanted to read. Your mileage may vary of course, but faking it just sounds like more work to me.
