My book club in Phoenix imploded over 'Wuthering Heights'

We had a screaming match about whether Heathcliff is a romantic hero or just a terrible person. One member actually threw her copy across the room. Now we have a strict 'no gothic romance' rule for picks. Anyone else's group ever ban a whole genre?

Banning the whole genre seems a bit much, but @taylor82, at least your spy novel fight stayed on the table.

Throwing a book over Heathcliff is a new level of book club passion. My group in Tucson almost came to blows over whether a character in a spy novel was justified in betraying his country, but we kept the books on the table. Banning a whole genre seems like a pretty strong move after just one bad meeting. Maybe you could have just banned books about moody guys who hang out on moors.

Friend of mine once banned romance novels from her book club after their Bridgerton reading got way too heated.
