My book club swore 'The Goldfinch' was a masterpiece but I think the entire middle section drags for 200 pages.
After forcing myself through 350 pages waiting for something to happen I finally gave up and traded it in for a mystery novel at the used bookstore down the street, anyone else bail on a hyped book halfway through?

Dude I totally feel your pain. That book was like pulling teeth for me too. I kept waiting for that big payoff everyone talked about and it just never came. Finally tossed it aside when I was like 300 pages in and realized I didn't care about any of the characters. Sometimes hype is just hype and there's no shame in DNFing a book that's not working for you.
