Spent $40 on a set of discussion prompt cards for our club and it was a total waste.
The questions were so basic they killed any real talk. Anyone have a better way to get a good argument going?

It's the same with those team-building exercises at work. They try to force connection with generic questions and it just makes things MORE awkward. Real debate needs a spark, not a script.

Totally agree, it feels so fake. Like when they make you share your "spirit animal" or a fun fact nobody cares about. That forced small talk kills any chance of real talk. You need a genuine disagreement or a shared problem to solve, not icebreakers. It just makes everyone put their guard up even more.

Ugh, that's so frustrating! I read this article once about how the best discussions come from questions that don't have one right answer. Like, instead of "what's your favorite book," it should be something like "is it ever okay to lie to protect someone?" Those basic prompt cards just give you dead-end answers. You need something where people can actually take different sides and explain why. It makes everyone lean in instead of checking out.
