The week I stopped taking notes by hand at book club meetings
I used to scribble down quotes and page numbers on a legal pad during discussions, but I'd always miss key points while writing. About 3 months ago, I started using a voice recorder app on my phone instead, and it freed me up to actually listen to what people were saying. Now I can go back and grab the exact passage from chapter 14 that sparked the argument about the ending. Anyone else find that recording changes how you follow along?

Set the recorder on the table at last month's meeting and forgot it was running. Ended up with forty-five minutes of me sniffling and the sound of someone eating chips really loudly. At least now I can go back and confirm that yes, I did say that dumb thing about the metaphor being about boats.
