TIL our book club hit 40 members and the debate quality totally flipped
We were stuck at 12 people for like a year, then last week a coworker brought 3 friends and suddenly we had 40 at the monthly meetup at the downtown library. Has anyone else seen a group get worse or better when it crosses a certain size threshold?

Wait, did they actually hit 40 at the meetup, or is that just how many are in the group now? Because that's a huge jump from 12 in one week. Maybe it's just me, but I've seen groups get super chatty and messy around 25, but 40 might just mean you need smaller breakout discussions.

... and honestly at 40 I'd probably just stand in the corner pretending to check my phone until someone mistakes me for the pizza delivery guy. @claire64 you're probably right about the breakout thing though, last time we tried a whole group chat at 25 it turned into three people arguing about parking and everyone else just liking random memes. I showed up to a 12 person meetup once and somehow ended up leading a discussion on tax software, which tells you everything about my crowd control skills. If they really hit 40, someone better bring name tags and a megaphone, or I'm just gonna find the nearest plant and stare at it for two hours.
