Vent: Hit 100 pages in my book club pick and still have no idea what the plot is supposed to be

I kept waiting for something to click but after finishing page 100 last night I'm starting to wonder if everyone else in the group just pretended they got it, has anyone else dealt with a book that just never explains itself?

Wait, you made it to page 100? I'd consider that a personal victory. I bailed on a book once at page 50 and never looked back. Life's too short for confusing garbage. Maybe everyone else is just nodding along hoping nobody calls them out. I've done that before in book club - just agreed with the smartest person there. Could be a bad translation too if it's from another language. Or the author just decided clarity wasn't for them.

You ever finish a book and immediately wonder if you accidentally read the IKEA instructions? I swear some authors get paid by the word count and just throw in every synonym they can find. At least with a bad translation you can blame the translator for making it sound like a robot wrote it. How do you even tell the difference between "deep" and "the writer fell asleep at the keyboard"?
