Vent: my book club voted to skip the last 3 chapters and now the whole debate fell apart

We were 40 pages from the end of a 400 page thriller when someone said the ending was too predictable, so we all agreed to stop reading and just argue about what we thought happened. Last Tuesday in Portland, the discussion turned into a guessing game with zero facts, and two members nearly walked out over a twist that wasn't even in the book. Has anyone else had a group give up on finishing a story, and did that make your debate worse or actually more fun?

Wait, did you just accidentally invent a better book club by not reading the book? I used to think skipping pages was lazy, but honestly this sounds way more fun than the usual "well, the author clearly meant..." debates that go nowhere. Last year my group read a mystery and we all guessed the killer by chapter two, so we spent the whole meeting arguing about why the red herring was actually better than the real ending. That debate was way more heated than any actual plot discussion we've had since, so maybe your club stumbled onto something.
