Warning: I spent $40 on a book club app that almost ruined our group

Our club was getting messy with people forgetting the next book pick or what page we were on. I saw an ad for this app called 'ClubRead' that said it would handle all that for us, so I paid for the year. It was a total pain. You had to put in every single book by hand, and the chat part was so slow. Half the group never even logged in. We lost a whole month's talk because the app said we were reading a different book than we actually were. It felt like I burned that money for nothing. We just went back to a simple group text and a shared note online for free. Has anyone else found a good, simple way to keep a book club on track without a fancy app?

Oh man, this hits home... I was totally the person who thought we needed a special app for everything. A bad experience with a planner app for my hiking group changed my mind. It just overcomplicated things that worked fine on a simple text chain. Sometimes the free, basic way is the best way because everyone already knows how to use it. Your shared note and group text plan sounds perfect, honestly.

Honestly it's just planning a hike, not launching a rocket. If a text chain gets the job done, that's all that really matters. Overthinking it is the real problem.
