Wasted $90 on a 'curated' book subscription box last month

Signed up for a monthly box that promised hidden literary gems. First one came with a romance novel I'd never read plus a candle that smelled like cheap soap. Second box had a self-published thriller with typos on page 3. I canceled after two months and the customer service ghosted me. Anyone else get burned by one of these fancy book subscription scams?

Think it's part of this whole hustle culture where everything has to be packaged up and sold as an experience instead of just being a regular product. My daughter fell for a similar thing with a vitamin subscription and ended up with a bunch of chalky pills she never touched.

Packaged up and sold as an experience" - I actually kind of like that part though. It makes buying stuff feel less boring and more like you're getting something special even if it's just regular pills.
