Best day I've had in the shop all month

Last Thursday I was wrestling with a really stubborn leather spine that just wouldn't curve right, and my antique nipping press finally died after 20 years. But then a customer walked in and bought three of my custom journals for $75 each without even haggling. Has anyone else ever had a bad morning turn into a great afternoon like that?

A few months back I had this one morning where my guillotine cutter jammed and I sliced my thumb open on a stray piece of binder's board. Blood everywhere, had to bandage it up with some scrap bookcloth. Then around 1pm a local author came in looking for a custom cover for her manuscript and ended up ordering a full run of 40 hardcovers at $50 each. Pretty much saved my whole month right there. Sometimes the worst starts turn into the best finishes.

Oh man, don't you just love when the universe decides to balance out your morning disasters with an afternoon miracle? My worst shop moment was when I accidentally knocked over a whole shelf of aged leather hides and they all landed in a puddle of water I'd left on the floor from cleaning my brushes. Spent two hours trying to salvage them and just ended up with wrinkly, ruined leather and a sore back. Then later that day a guy came in and bought five of my cheaper notebooks without even blinking. Guess I should spill more water on myself if that's what it takes to make a sale, right?
