Finally gave that Japanese paper splitting method a shot after doubting it for years

I was sure it was just a gimmick, but after splitting a sheet of 90gsm paper cleanly into two usable layers for endpapers, I'm a believer. Anyone have tips for keeping the sheets flat after splitting?

Honestly that method seems like way more trouble than it's worth. Tried it once and the paper just curled up like crazy no matter what I did. Ended up with two useless wavy sheets. For endpapers, buying proper lightweight paper saves so much time and gives a better finish. The splitting trick might work for some, but the results are never as stable as a single sheet meant for the job.

So you're saying @olivia380 got the world's worst paper cut?

Tried splitting paper for a book project last year and had the same curling problem. What finally worked was using a thicker paper stock and a really sharp craft knife with a metal ruler. The key was making one clean, slow cut instead of trying to saw through it.
