Hot take: spending $200 on a real book press was a waste for me
Everyone in this group raves about getting a proper standing press for pressing books after gluing. So I dropped $200 on a used cast iron press from an old print shop... thought it'd level up my binding game. But honestly, my small hobby press I got for $30 does the same job for my size projects. The big press takes up half my garage and I barely use it. I bind maybe 10-15 books a year, mostly journals and sketchbooks under 200 pages. The weight of the cast iron is nice but it's overkill. Has anyone else been burned by buying pro gear when hobby level stuff worked fine?

Yeah, I totally get that. My big press mostly collects dust now too, I actually get better results just stacking heavy books on my little one for overnight pressing.
