I finally picked up a sewing awl instead of my usual glue-only method
For years I did all my bindings with just PVA and heavy pressing, thought stitching was overkill. Then last month a customer brought in a 1930s ledger that had completely split down the spine, and I tried my first coptic stitch with a curved needle. The flexibility difference was NIGHT and day, that old book opened flat without any crease damage. Now I'm wondering if I should redo some of my earlier repair jobs, has anyone here gone back and added stitching to previously glued works?
