I saw a guy at the 2018 Guild of Book Workers fair in Boston using a bone folder from the 1800s

Would you drive a car from the 1800s? Good tools are meant to be used, not just looked at. If it survived this long, it's probably solid.

Wait, you've actually driven a car from the 1800s? I used to think old tools were just for museums honestly, like you'd be crazy to risk breaking something that old. But you're right, if it's been around that long and still works it's gotta be built better than half the junk we buy today. My grandpa had this old hand drill from the 1920s that he used all the time and I never got why he didn't just buy a new one. Now I get it, that thing probably outlasted three cordless drills and never needed a battery.

Honestly that's so cool when tools have that kind of history. Tbh I'd be scared to actually use something that old though, like what if it snapped?
