Just realized I was using way too much glue on my spine linings
A binder with 30 years experience looked at one of my books at a guild meetup last month and said 'you know that's meant to be a thin layer, right?' Showed me how little he actually uses. Tried it on my next bind and the spines came out way more flexible and flat. Been wasting glue for 2 years apparently. Anyone else get told they're overdoing something basic?

Better to find out now than never. Seems like most hobbies have that one thing people overdo without realizing.

Right? That's like when someone tells you you've been holding a hammer wrong your whole life and suddenly everything just clicks. The glue thing is one of those "wait, THAT'S the secret?" moments where you realize you could have saved half a bottle and a lot of frustration. I bet your first few books were basically solid glue blocks pretending to be spines. At least you caught it now before you went another 10 years being THAT person at the guild meetups. The binder who knew better was probably holding back a laugh the whole time watching you slather it on.
