Sewn boards vs glued spines, I picked the 'wrong' one on purpose

Everyone in my local guild swears by sewn board bindings, says glue is for amateurs. I had to rebind a 1920s field guide with a beat-up text block, so I chose a double-fan adhesive bind instead. Took me about 2 hours at the bench, and the cover hinges are still solid after 40 page flips. The whole process felt more forgiving when the paper was brittle, and honestly, I'd do it again. Has anyone else gone against the glue-free crowd and got a better result?
