Spent 6 hours on a headband fix that should have taken 20 minutes
Last weekend I was casing in a copy of Moby Dick for a customer in Portland and the spine kept creasing no matter how slow I went. I thought my bone folder was too sharp so I dulled it, then I thought the glue was too wet so I let it sit overnight, and neither one fixed it. Turns out my backing hammer had a tiny burr on the face that was denting the spine as I rounded it, and I only found it by running my thumb along the edge after hour five. A quick pass with 400 grit sandpaper and the next signature went down clean on the first try. How do you all check your tools for burrs before you start a job?
