TIL a trick for getting a smooth edge on book cloth

I was gluing down some cloth covers and kept getting frayed edges, so I tried a bone folder versus a plastic one. The bone folder heated up just enough from my hand to seal the fibers, no more fraying. Anyone else have a go-to tool for that job?

That's a clever trick with the bone folder. I read somewhere that the natural oils in bone can help with burnishing too, which might add to the effect kai_bennett mentioned. Makes me want to dig my old one out of the drawer.

That bit about the bone folder warming up sounds like what happened to my friend Carol. She was working on a batch of journals and kept getting fuzzy edges on her book cloth. Her plastic folder was leaving a mess so she grabbed the handle of a old butter knife she had heated with her tea mug. Worked like a charm but she said the metal left a tiny sheen on the cloth she didn't love. She went back to the bone folder for the next round and never had the problem again.

Nice! I've used a warm spoon before too.
