Tried sewing a book with linen thread instead of the waxed stuff everyone pushes, and I'm not going back
Every tutorial I watched said to use waxed thread for my first few practice books because it grips the paper and won't tangle, so I bought a spool for $12 and sewed three text blocks. The wax kept clumping in the holes and my knots looked like little brown boogers, so out of frustration I grabbed a plain linen thread I had left over from a repair job. That fourth book sewed so much cleaner and the spine opened flat on the first try, which the waxed ones never did. I get why people like the grip, but for a beginner like me the linen was way easier to control. Anyone else skip the wax or am I setting myself up for trouble on bigger books?
